COURSES IN La GRANDE-MOTTE 2008
CONTENT OF THE 8 UNITS OF TEACHING :
course for French teachers - teaching skills





Unit 1 : Today's French civilization through matters concerning the society and current events

Goals :
• A better understanding of today’s French society and its people ; the studying of the new dimensions of the current French society through its customs and behavior political life, cultural life, economic life, social life as well as the French society’s new values. The use of documents with dialogues and debates concerning the matters of society and current events.
• giving the clues to understand modern France ; the references which shaped French political and social history (the nation, the state, secularism, the intellectual movement, Mai 68…..).
• Helping to better understand France’s position in the world today through its European integration and the globalization of exchanges.
• Learning how to better use information pertaining to France in order to integrate the sociocultural aspect in ones’ teaching of the French language.



Unit 2: linguistic perfecting, improving expression techniques

Goals :
• reviewing difficulties with French grammar,
• studying and comparing different language levels (vernacular, written, colloquial language and slang)
• perfecting ones’ oral expression techniques: reading, pronunciation, oral summary.
• perfecting ones’ written expression techniques: taking notes, reformulating, synthesis, résumé, report.
• enriching ones’ vocabulary: developing subjects and using



Unit 3: methodology of communication approach in the FLE class

Goals :
• studying different communicative approaches: written and oral methodologies.
• bringing ones’ knowledge about French as a foreign language education up to standard.
• engaging a thought process and assessing ones’ teaching methods.
• learning how to better evaluate the learning process in the FLE class.



Unit 4: class techniques and the conception of new tools for the FLE class in order to stimulate learning.

Goals :
• giving examples of animation techniques for the FLE class.
• synthesizing all usable documents: description, analysis, and pedagogical approach
• (advertising, text or any kind of document). Learning how to choose ones’ pedagogical supports based on the audience it is intended for.
• learning how to conceive new tools for the FLE teaching.
• learning how to better use authentic documents for the FLE class.
• exercises by global simulation.
• observing a class and analyzing the teaching methods.
• learning to develop games and creativity in the FLE class for an educational and interactive teaching.
• giving ones insight on the teaching of the French language to children.
• stimulating ones’ teaching by oral expression.
• stimulating ones’ teaching of grammar.
• assessing the FLE certificates (ex DELF/DALF).
• integrating the notion of learning with pleasure.



Unit 5: the audiovisual pedagogy and the use of multimedia in FLE class

Goals :
• earning how to better use the image in the FLE class (live situations by film, video,
• TV news extract, advertising); learning to decode and understand the meaning of images. Its use supposes a large variety of exercises intended to incite the student’s interest.
• learning how to better use audible texts (song, radio).
• assessing multimedia and teaching (Internet and the new tools). Optional (Internet module for the teaching in the FLE class).

The workshops with the educational and linguistic approach will successfully complete the Units 5 and 6, by: theatre performance, cinema, cartoons, song….etc.


 


Unit 6 : French literature, FLE and contemporary literature text studies

Goals :
• the literary text in the FFL class
• Youth literature.
• introduction to new writers


 


Unit 7 : FLE books and documents workshop

Content :
• the presentation of up to date teaching material for the FLE teaching. Samples of the books will be distributed to the participants.


 


Unit 8 : press review workshop

Content :
• the presentation of the main French newspapers and magazines and examples of press documents taken from the net. How to elaborate and present a press review and learn how to synthesize information taken from different papers or articles, in order to give a clear and concise oral presentation.
