Overview of the DELF and DALF

Diplôme d'études en langue française - DELF and DELF junior version
Diplôme approfondi de langue française - DALF

Harmonized on the common European Framework of reference for the languages since September 1, 2005.
The DELFand the DALF diplomas are both delivered by the French Education Ministry as certificates of French language ability for non-native speakers. The DELF ("Diplôme d'Etudes en Langue Française") and DALF ("Diplôme Approfondi de Langue Française") consist of 6 diplomas independent from each other. They correspond to the 6 levels of the Common European Framework of References for languages. All diplomas are independent from each other (the unit credit scheme has disappeared) which means candidates can sit the exam at any level without access tests. All four competences (speaking, writing, listening and reading skills) are tested at all levels. All units are valid indefinitely and all over the world.
